Introduction
The purpose of this report is to pitch and sell the idea to producers
to get the film made for my short webisode. The primarily research that I carried
out including looking at recent short films and recent films that are out in
the cinema such as, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015), Goosebumps
(2015) and The Visit (2015). Another primarily research I did was talking to my
family and friends about my idea for a short horror film, to get their opinion
about it. As I was doing my primarily research I found out that my target
audience for short horror/ thriller films are more mature teenagers and young adults.
Teenagers and young adults are the main audience for advertisements on social
media. By doing my research I decided that my target audience is going 18 and
over.
However the secondary research that I have done is that I
have researched more into kick starter which is a possibility to sign up with
them to help to produces my short films around the world. Also I looked at most popular films and look
at overheads such as, budget, gross and opening weekend cost and comments
received. Another secondary research that all film directors have to acknowledge
is BBCF. All films get examined and set off to give an age rate, this is
because BBCF are trying to protect young and vulnerable people. For my budget I
have to consider all of my equipment, locations and props. For my short film I
would like to spend around £150-200 altogether. The name of my film is ‘knock knock who’s there?’
2. Film Synopsis
Short film idea: twins that have the same friends but everyone
likes the other twin better. The other twins get very jealous, so one afternoon
they play a game and the twin kills them one by one. When one dies the victims signs
symbols that they all have and lights switches off when someone die.
Twist at the end- that twins kills her own friends and
leaves her sister slowly dying and confused why she did this.
Hook- all trying to find out who is killing each other.
Twist- is that she leaves her twin to die and kills all her friends. however, one friend that the suspect thought that she killed survived and knocks her unconscious and tries to help the twin and herself escape
Twist- is that she leaves her twin to die and kills all her friends. however, one friend that the suspect thought that she killed survived and knocks her unconscious and tries to help the twin and herself escape
Tagline- 'you will never know what is going on in the inside but
outside seems fine'
My idea is influence by all the Hunger Games (shot gun when
someone die) and Ouija (playing game then wired and not normal happens)
3. Film Rating
For my short film my age rating is going to 15 because in my
film is going to include strong violence, some strong language such as f**k and
s**t in my film which might be unsuitable for young people. At 15 [1]
horror is allowed as long as there is no
sustained focus on sadistic or sexualised threat. BBCF age rates U,PG,12A,12,15,18,R18
4. Primarily
Research
For my primary research I ask my family and friends about my
idea and look out recent horror films that are popular in 2015- 2016, I also
looked at YouTube on short horror playlist and as I was reading the comment I
found out most of the people that watch short horror films are young adults. For
my film I am going to make horror/ thriller sequences.
YOU TUBE
For example I looked at this short film called ‘NIGHT NIGHT NANCY’ which is good horror film which leaves the audience in suspense and creates mystery. In this short film Lewis use close up when the tension increase and non- diegetic when tension increases and stop when it comes down.
Another example that I watched is called ‘SKYPEMARE - Horror
Short Film Starring Cerina Vincent’ which is good horror film which also leaves
the audience in suspense and creates mystery. Also ‘whereistherockhammer’ uses
shot reverse shot and use high and low angel to show who’s dominate which I am
also going use in my 1 minute film.
5. Secondary Research
For my secondary research I found out about the different
age rates for films and where I can upload my short horror film such as,
Netflix or films festival. Also I found out how to sign up for The London Short
Festival. I also found out that Kickstarter is a good company to help you build
up your own project and produces your work online and gain views. By watching
the short horror film on YouTube I found out that mystery character have powers
and wired mind.
6. Summary of all
research (conclusions)
Overall for my research I found beneficial facts about how I
can produce my film and how I can direct and the different options that open to
young people that trying to get their short film out there in the world. For my
idea I will use two well know films and
mix together to make it horror/ thriller Due to my research the best option to
get more short film out there is London Short Film Festival or YouTube because
people uses these sites.
7. Unique Selling
Point
I am confident that this is going to be successful because a
lot of people watch horror films and I have done all my research on what options are
open to me in the film industry. I think is also going to be successful because
it has a hook and a twist at the end which throws the audience off and it makes
you think. Furthermore, I use two film ideas that are really successful in my
film that makes it unique. For my narrative structure it is going to be open
narrative because it does not have an ending, due to this the story building up
when progressing further into the film. This makes it more interesting to
watch. Also it is going to have continuity style which flows through out the
film
8. Budget
For my budget I would hope to spend:
Location-£100
Props -make up-£15, mask – no cost, knife-£3.00 and fake
blood £10.00
Equipment- £20
Transport- free (bus)
9. Regulation &
Certification
BBCF-Films for
theatrical release are normally classified by at least two examiners using the
published Guidelines. In most cases the decision is ratified by a Senior
Examiner, but if the Examiners are in any doubt or fail to agree, or if
important policy issues are involved, the work may be seen by other members of
the Board up to, and including, the Director and Presidential team.[1]
Ofcom is the communications regulator in the UK. We regulate
the TV, radio and video on demand sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal
services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.[1]
For my film I am not going to get my short film examined because it not going
to be released in the cinema or social sites, but if my film was going to be in
the cinema then it will have to be examined by the BBCF.
My target audience is 18+- 37 years because in that range of people watches short horror films' thriller films, also children under 18 they only watch what is advertise on TV such as, series and films.

10. Revisions and
changes/development of idea
For my original idea I made some changes. For example change
it from a thriller to horror film instead because thrillers are usually based
in the city and I wanted my location to be in a couple rooms and path ways.
Also I cut some bits for example, my location in the school to older location to make
more appealing to adult teens and young adults because that’s my target
audience. I decided to put two well-known films and take their ideas such as
Hunger Games and Ouija.
11. Locations
This is going to be in Charlton house in 3 different rooms
and path way. This is because it is a historic building which will help create
a scarier atmosphere.
12. Distribution
I’m going to show my
film in London Short Film Festival which is an annual event that presents the
best in UK short film-making talent. For a couple of weeks in January we take
over London’s best independent cinemas and venues to showcase some amazing
short films. The London Short Film Festival, now in its 13th year, has been
recognised as the premiere UK showcase for cutting-edge UK independent film,
while now accepting international submissions. By this it be good opportunities
to make it know in London and can get examined by professional.

"I am confident that this is going to be successful because a lot of people watch horror films and I have done all my research on what options are open to me in the film industry. " - this is not detailed or explains and is not convincing you must explain why in detail in order to make this point it is about something unique selling to an audience you do not say what this is or who your audience is.
Your round up of conclusions to your primary research and secondary is lacking detail and therefore does not convince me there is a market or that this is being distributed in the right places.
Your target audience age range and gender is not stated let alone how this will, appeal to them
Trends?
Which film festivals and why would you submit for a festival how does this effect distribution and getting your name out there.,
For M2 "present a structured and detailed media production report which conveys information and explains conclusions with clarity" you do not do the the explain conclusions to the full extend to secure merit yet
