TASK B SECTION 1& 2
Single camera and multi-camera
In this report I am going be discussing what a single camera
is and how it also set and what are the advantages and the disadvantages of
singe camera also I am going to give some example of which TV shows uses single
camera. Correspondingly I am going discuss what is multi-camera is and what are
the advantages and disadvantages of using multi-camera.
Single camera
A single camera production is used for several of shorts. In
the film industry the single camera is used for low budget, most common used in
a music videos and used for prime time’s drama and advertisement.
For example, the series ‘Utopia’ uses single camera which is a Single-Drama , this is because Utopia is short film which can the director can record the scene numerous of time changing the angle such as close up, mid short and control the lighting. Another examples Come fly with us, Skins and Doctor Who all of these series use single camera when filming.
How to set-up single camera
Single camera is very easy to set when filming. By setting
up a single camera you can film the film or series in stages. Single camera are
usually used in films or series, this because is because you set a camera when
filming a person using close up, mid shots, high and low angles and Master Shot
and change the lighting. Single camera is use instead of multi-cameras in
series or films because it cheaper, more easily to carry around and shot the
scene again and again.
1.
Firstly you go to the person or object that you
want to film
2.
Position your tripod in front of the actor.
3.
Then place your camera on top of the tripod
4.
Finally start filming the scene using different camera shot techniques.
Advantages and
disadvantages of a single camera
There are serval advantages by using a single camera, one
example of a single camera is that the
camera is less expensive therefore by using a single camera the direct can spend more money on the film
such as locations, props and equipment. Another advantages of used a single
camera is easily to gather all the shots on one camera, due to this they will
be no difficulties with missing tapes of the film and the director will not be
worrying about the different shot the director took. By this the director will
know that they have all the tapes store in one camera. Another advantages of
using a single camera is that it is effortlessly to carry around on the go to
different location.
On the other hand there are some downfalls when using a
single camera one of the cons of using a single camera is that you keep on
moving and setting it up when shooting a different scene or angles, according
to this it will cause less time to shoot and making sure you will have the
perfect shot. This can be one of the major downfall when using a single camera.
Another disadvantages when using a single camera is that if the camera is
damage or stop working all your is displayed on it and you have no backup
camera then you will struggle. Therefore you will waste a lot of film time and
it would not be up to sanders.
Multi-camera is more than one camera that is filming that is
filming live, so need to capture everything. For example, one camera can be
focusing on close up, one camera can focusing on the master shot and another
camera can be focusing on coverage shot.
For instance in a wedding the will use multi- camera because
it live and you cannot stop the wedding just to get a close up of the couple
ring. This why the use multi camera when it’s live. Another example that uses multi-camera is
Jeremy Kyle Show, BBC Glastonbury and Graham Norton and football, this is
because it on live and broadcasting on TV live.
How to set up
Multi-camera
Multi-camera set up are not the same as single camera set up
because you are more cameras to set up? The easiest way to set up multi-camera
is the 180 degree rule this means that guest/ actor should be place on the line
of action this makes it easier to film. By using 180 degree rule you set up a
camera to film face up, one camera to film the mid shot and one camera to film
long shot.
1.
First place one camera on your left side, then
place one in the middle and afterwards place one on your right side forming the
180 degree rule.
2.
Set each camera on which camera techniques
whether it close up/ masters shot or mid shot.
3.
Then start recording throughout the show.
Advantages and
disadvantages of multi-camera
There are plenty of advantages of using multi-camera; one
example is that you have more than one camera that the director can shoot easily
whereas single camera cannot do not. This will spend more time on the number
scene in the amount of time. Another benefit is that you can captured all angle
of the characters whether the emotion to their body language. Also it makes it
smoother for to jump to one scene to another. Added advantages is that is much
fast to make a film.
However there are some disadvantages while using
multi-camera; one example is that more expensive therefore you paying for 3-5
camera and they are not cheap. Another weakness of using multi-camera is taking
longer to set due to the equipment. Extra disadvantage is that you upload all
different scene from multiple camera on a desktop which takes longer whereas
single camera it all there for you.
Genre of single camera and multi-camera
Single camera mostly use for short film, music video, advertisement or prime dramas this is because it easier and more productive also it save more efficient and it is not live. this is because they can stop and recorded and replayed. Also single are use for build up tension in films, music videos and programmes they use by close up, mid shot, long shot, coverage shot, and extreme long shot, but for a single camera it cause more time to set up since you have to set up again and again to film different angles.
Whereas multi-camera it is used for live television such as 'The Real and Wendy Williams show' this is because it saves time stopping and this they filming at different angles so it makes quicker to record. The camera needs to be recording at all times at different angles. Mostly multi- camera is used for talks shows and reality shows. This because you can captured all the tension and emotions at the same time. Multi-camera is use for tension and drama in TV shows and reality shows by using close by close up, mid shot, long shot, coverage shot, and extreme long shot, 180 degree rules and match on action whereas single cannot use 180 degree rules because it would broken.
For example in Wendy Williams show is chat live show when watching this i notice that one camera is using a extreme close up for instance, of the guest shoes and close up of her face zooming in to show their relationship between them.To let the audience see what shoes she wearing also who she presents herself. also notice that another camera is using close up/mid shot of the guest and interviewer, additionally i also notice that another camera is using a long shot of whole bodies this is because the audience can full view on what they are wearing and their body language is. but if live shows are film with single camera you would get every detail in and can miss important parts. whereas multi-camera is better because it can every bit of detail and can film at different angles.
For a movies such as single dramas, comedy, horror they will use a single camera. for example, 'Utopia' is a single drama there is one camera recording everything for example they start with long shot zooming in to make it a close up of the character in yellow. by this it would be build up tension. also i notice that they use over the shoulder shot. this is use to hide their identity. Also used 180 degree rule when the characters were talking. By using a single camera the director can repeat the scene plenty as time but have set up every time to recording the different angles, however you can use multi-camera for this but single camera when filming films, music videos and programmes are more efficient to carry around and cheap.

Own Single Camera Production
In this my partner and I had to film to research blocking
and intimate, distance what we found out that 2 people showing their relationship
this can bumping into each. For this you will use a single camera and use mid
shot and then a close up on their face to show their impression on their face
at that time. Then we had to research building a sequences this is when you
builds of shots for example the will film that person then film another shot to
take away tension between the actors. For example the film one shot of a girl
and then another `shot of the equipment.

Section B- Different format
Series
A series are episodes that are leading to the actual plot of
the story for example skin a series because it shows different characters that
have different story lines and by this will have different episodes that they
going to focus on also this will lead up to final plot of each season of
episode. For example Hollyoaks and EastEnders they have episode that focus on
different character which leads up to the main issue. Like EastEnders the will
have a duff duff at the end to show that they might be the main character for
the issue, and hollyoaks with finish and a minute the will give short scene
with a character.
Serials
Another format is a Serials which tells a story through many
episodes. They are usually science fiction story, for example ‘The Flash’ it
tells one story through one character and in different episode it build up the
story about wanting to save her mother. By this serials allows the audience to
figure out the plot through watching different episodes? In serials format they remove the cliff-hangers
and put all the episode together to make big movie but having episode in it for
example ‘The Tomorrow People.
Single-Drama
Another format is a single drama which is broadcast around
the world, a single drama involves real life stories. It is often based on topics or issues that
are more appropriate for television than in contrast to cinema based. For
example drama is ‘My Murder’ which is based on true events. A single drama only
last around 1 hour or 1 hour an half.
Another single drama format is ‘I AM SLAVE’
which is broadcasted around the world to see a real life event.
Webisode and LOL Web Series
In my webisode production the format was a serials due to
fact we want the views to think what going to happen next in few episode of ‘THE
CREEPER’ by this it would build up tension and mystery as the episodes go on. In
our webisode it about a girl that is innocent walks home from her friends and
the next morning she wakes up in the middle of nowhere in a shed not knowing
what happen. As we progress into the webisode we see why she there and why she
targeted. Also LOL is a serials due to fact that has more than one episode
which the main character that is a girl and all about her trying to fit in with
everybody and see how that works out for at the end. In this serials they
single camera to show the different angles such close up and mid shot.
