Task C: Technical Analysis of SCT: 3/3 Short Film

Task C: Technical Analysis of SCT: 3/3 Short Film

In short film ‘Decay the director starts up with a close up of the unknown character lying on the floor. I would uses this camera shot in this sequences in thriller/ horror film  by doing close up of his face and then zoom out so the audience can see the background, by this it will create more mystery. As the short film starts the sound automatically comes on and quite eerie, the sound we can hear is as the Decay starts piano, screeching noise, soft drums and the man coughing. Due to this it makes the audience think that he might be beating up and banned in the middle of nowhere. By the director start up with close up it would create tension right away.

As keep on watching the director shows us the overview of the locations, which the colour grey I which suggest that the environment is dirty and dull. I would use sequence in a thriller/horror film because give audience a sense of overview of the film and where it is located, this makes the audience wonder why is he is there. By this it would create suspense.

In this scene the director uses free hand in this shot. This shows that he is unstable and he is really vulnerable and fragile. For example, I would this camera technique in a sequences for thriller/horror if a person is running, unstable or their mind is over the place. Also we found by watching this that he house is not far away and suggest that the character is successful. This make the audience think he got himself in trouble that why he was banned in middle of nowhere.

The director uses the name decay in later on in the film to make more interesting because if you put the name first when the film starts it can be long and can be boring then it might take longer to start. By having the name come in later into the film it would create suspense and mystery. All you can see is the name and hear backing soundtrack.

In this scene the director use flashbacks of the character as we can see that he is fine and he going to look at  a house. For example, I would use sequences in a thriller by having person stuck in recent  time  then looking at something that remind them of the past. So this case it tell the story all again. This will make more interesting to watch. Suddenly the sound stops and you hear is a person talking in a car this makes less intense.

In this scene of Decay the director use a close up of the person hands. This shows that is something he found suspicious and the person who done this he smart. For example I would use by having something that is important have a close up. This makes the audience question what is it but when found out whilst watching it is boom and think is going to do when he realise

In this scene of Decay the director uses jump cuts when boom went off his flashback ended. By this we know what happen and why he ended up at the beginning. Automatically the sound comes again this will create tension. This makes audiences think what’s going to happen next and who would tried to kill him.

In this scene of Decay the director a eye point of view to make us see through the character eyes. By this we see that he had is fill in with blood and colour red emphasises danger. By this point it makes the audience feel really confuse on why is covered in blood and by tracking music playing it build more mystery and suspense. This shows that dangerous and that why they tried to kill him.

In this scene of Decay the director high angle shot to show that he is weak and confuse. We can see this as he holds a gun in his hand. This implies that he wants to kill himself and feels guilty. the editing people uses score as their music so fit in with film by this it create loads of tension. Even though he killed we think that is not the right way to do it because you need to earn up to the consequences he made.

In this scene of Decay the director close up of the character face at this point we are kind of shock because we never knew he was a vampire. By this it makes so clear why he is acting strange. At this point we would expect the man to run. This makes worried and fearful for poor man.  Also the blood on the character mouth suggest that he killed already and suggest that he dangerous to citizens.

In this scene of Decay the director shows that he kills the man and hungry for blood also the direct use a cliff hangers to make audience wonder what is going to happen next the director use contrast as the background is light and friendly and the character is evil and dangerous. This makes the audience feel frighten for people who live in the area.

Make sure you discuss editing - use of 180 degree rule or match on action or shot/rev shot. How does the pace of the short film develop

What narrative structure is being used here and why - how does editing accomplish this?
What format is it - how does this effect the ending?
